Purity of Substances

The purity of a substance can be determined by measuring its melting point or boiling point. A pure solid melts completely at a fixed temperature. Impurities lower the melting point and increase the boiling point of a liquid. When pressure increases, the boiling point of a liquid increases. Likewise, when pressure decreases, the boiling point of the liquid decreases.
